8305C is a human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cell line derived from the primary tumor of a 67-year-old female patient with thyroid cancer. These cells grow adherently in vitro with a spindle-shaped, fibroblast-like morphology and can be continuously passaged. They exhibit aggressive tumorigenic characteristics typical of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, one of the most undifferentiated and lethal forms of thyroid cancer. 8305C cells express markers indicative of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), including decreased E-cadherin and elevated vimentin levels, reflecting their invasive phenotype. At the molecular level, they harbor mutations in key oncogenes and tumor suppressors such as TP53, which contribute to their high proliferative and metastatic potential. This cell line is widely used to study anaplastic thyroid cancer biology, mechanisms of chemoresistance, and to evaluate novel therapeutic strategies against aggressive thyroid tumors.
