Formula per Litre of Medium:

• Sodium Thioglycollate: 1.5 g
• Disodium Hydrogen Phosphate: 1.1 g
• Sodium Chloride: 5.0 g
• Calcium Chloride: 0.09 g
• Agar: 5.0 g
• pH: 8.4 ± 0.2

Specifications:

• Storage Conditions: Store between 2-25°C. The product has a shelf life of 52 weeks when stored upright and protected from light.
• Sterility: This medium has undergone a three-day steam sterilization process and is ready for immediate use.
• Volume: Available in various sizes (e.g., 100 mL, 200 mL, 500 mL, and 1000 mL) to suit different requirements.

Recommended Procedure:

1. For swab specimens, insert the swab into the upper third of the medium, aseptically break the protruding portion, and securely recap the tube.
2. For solid samples (e.g., tissue), fully immerse the sample in the medium and recap the tube tightly.
3. Ensure the tube is clearly labeled for easy identification of the specimen.
4. Transport the specimen to the laboratory as soon as possible.
5. Upon receipt, subculture the specimen onto an appropriate medium for recovery of the target organism.

Precautions:

• Cary Blair Medium is designed for transport only. Delays in processing may result in reduced viability of bacterial cells and allow contaminating flora to proliferate.
• Avoid exposure to extreme heat, as it may compromise the sterility and effectiveness of the medium.
