Buffy Coat

The buffy coat, a fraction of an anticoagulated blood sample, is a valuable source material for isolating immune cells, including lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes. 

This layer, which is visibly distinct and located between the plasma and red blood cells after centrifugation, represents less than 1% of the total blood volume but is rich in white blood cells and platelets. 

Buffy coat is very useful in various research applications, particularly in immunology and hematology. Isolated immune cells from the buffy coat can be used  in studying the immune system’s functioning, understanding disease mechanisms, and developing immune-based therapies. 

We isolate buffy coat using density gradient centrifugation of anticoagulated blood from both whole blood bags in CPD, or from blood collected in alternative anticoagulant blood tubes.

Delivery is routinely made to locations across Europe on the day after blood collection (or on the day of collection to some UK locations). We give researchers access to fresh, high viability samples whenever their research demands.
