About Elite™ Total Antioxidant Activity Assay Kit

Living cells are continuously exposed to reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during normal metabolism and in response to environmental stress. To maintain redox homeostasis, cells rely on a complex antioxidant defense system consisting of enzymatic antioxidants (such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase) and non-enzymatic antioxidants (including glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E, uric acid, bilirubin, and numerous small molecules). Rather than measuring individual antioxidants separately, total antioxidant activity (TAA) provides an integrated assessment of the overall antioxidant capacity of a biological sample, making it one of the most informative biomarkers for oxidative stress research. Changes in total antioxidant activity have been associated with aging, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, chronic inflammation, and many other oxidative stress-related diseases.

The Elite™ Total Antioxidant Activity Assay Kit provides a rapid, sensitive, and quantitative method for measuring the overall antioxidant capacity of biological samples. The assay is based on the ability of antioxidants present in the sample to reduce an oxidant probe, generating a measurable colorimetric or fluorometric signal proportional to the total antioxidant activity. Because the assay measures the combined effects of multiple antioxidant molecules, it provides a more comprehensive evaluation of oxidative status than assays targeting individual antioxidants alone.
